Continuing Education Campers:
Beginning this year we will provide six college-age young men the
opportunity to continue their study of ministry by attending the camp.
Those interested may apply online or fill out the application on the
back of this brochure. (Curriculum for college-age campers may be
slightly different from teenagers.)
Application Deadline:
We prefer for applications to arrive prior to May 1, 2007. We will
reserve 30 spots for campers 13-18 and six spots for college age
students. After this deadline we will fill any open spots on a first
come, first served basis from both groups.
What?: The Middle Tennessee
Future Ministers Camp is a training camp for teenage boys who are
interested in learning about ministry in the Lord’s church and
college-age young men interested in continuing their study of ministry.
We will focus on preaching and youth ministry, but we will explore other
areas of ministry as well. The week will be filled with classes on
sermon preparation and delivery, youth ministry, the life and work of a
minister, and personal evangelism. Each camper will deliver a sermon on
an assigned topic or text (with personal help from our experienced
staff). Hands-on learning will be a special feature of the camp. For
example, campers will participate in a mock wedding this year. We have a
computer room with 12 computers available to aid in sermon preparation.
We will have recreational activities including swimming (no mixed
gender) and sports. We have a time each evening called “Spoken English”
which will create some of your longest lasting memories. During the camp
you will likely make friendships that will last the rest of your life.
You may grow more spiritual than you ever thought possible in one week.
You just might describe this as the best week of your life.
Where?: The Graymere church of
Christ is centrally located in Columbia, TN (about 50 miles south of
Nashville). Campers and staff will be housed in Graymere Hall, which is
a beautiful retreat facility located on the property near the main
church building. Classes and meals will be held in both Graymere Hall
and the main building.
Who?: We have housing for 30 campers
ages 13-18 and 6 college-age campers. Campers are accepted by
application only. You may apply online or fill out and mail in the
application on the back of this brochure. Campers
will receive a letter of confirmation or email once their application
has been received and they have been accepted. Late applications may be
confirmed by phone. Those who are accepted will also need to fill out
medical and liability releases. Check-in is Sunday, May 27 from
2:00-4:30 PM. The camp officially ends on Friday, June 1 at 9:00 PM.
Parents and friends are invited to visit the camp for Sunday night
service May 27, for Wednesday night service on May 30, and during the
evening meal, closing assembly, and final worship service on Friday
night, June 1.
How Much?: There is no charge to
attend the camp. You will only be responsible for transportation to and
from the camp, and a little spending money. You might need spending
money to buy a coke or snack if we are away from the building. We also
plan to have a Gospel Advocate Bookstore display available in case you
want to purchase preaching and youth ministry books (every camper will
be given at least one book at the camp). The members of the Graymere
congregation will provide three meals a day for the boys (with plenty
left in-between). Do not be surprised if you gain weight during the
week.
What to Bring: Campers will need to
bring bed clothes and toiletry items. Shirt and tie are required each
day for classes and some evening activities. A coat and tie are required
for Wednesday night services, when campers preach, and during the
closing assembly and worship. Casual clothes and knee-length shorts may
be worn in the rooms and during recreational periods. Shirts with logos
advertising tobacco, drugs, alcohol, and negative or suggestive language
may not be worn at any time. Swim trunks will be needed for a trip to
the pool and learning how to baptize someone.
